The Big Bang

Our universe burst into existence in an event known as the Big Bang 13.8 billion years ago. Moments later, space itself ripped apart, expanding exponentially in an episode known as inflation. Telltale signs of this early chapter in our universe's history are imprinted in the skies, in a relic glow called the cosmic microwave background.

Although, the Big Bang Theory has been widely accepted, only now direct evidence has been found of the ripples left by this first explosive outburst. This month, astronomers announced that they have acquired the first direct evidence that gravitational waves rippled through our infant universe during inflation. This is the strongest confirmation yet of cosmic inflation theories, which say the universe expanded by 100 trillion trillion times, in less than the blink of an eye.

Saving Water

Freshwater is always in demand, and the ultimate source of freshwater is rain and snow. Snow is especially important since it can act as a natural reservoir, being stored in highlands in colder months to be gradually released in warmer months. Therefore knowing how much snow are stored and when and how much will be released later on, would be important in planning, either for freshwater resources or to generate electricity.

However, the spatial and temporal distributions of snow water equivalent (SWE) and snow albedo are still largely unquantified. NASA/JPL, in partnership with the California Department of Water Resources, has developed the ASO (Airborne Snow Observatory) to quantify these properties to provide complete, robust inputs to water management models and systems of the future.

Awesomeness Fest

As explained on their website, "Awesomeness Fest is a gathering and community of people who share values and a bigger vision of the impact they want to have on the world. The 'tribe' does not fit into a particular group. They are not all entrepreneurs, or authors or artists or celebrities. ... Awesomeness Fest is designed to teach you how to bring out the most of your capabilities as a human being."

Anousheh attended the Awesomeness Fest 2013 in the Dominican Republic as a speaker. Here is what she had to share with the "tribe" to dare them to dream:
